SBP series Boric Lead Glazes are opaque vitreous coatings, and their appearance can vary greatly depending on the thickness applied, the firing temperature, and the type of glazed substrate. They can be used on a variety of substrates, although they are especially suited for red clay objects. Lead glazes are not suitable for producing objects intended for food use, such as tableware and table accessories. Boric glazes are used directly on biscuits to create a colored, textured, and waterproof surface for ceramic objects. They must be applied in a sufficiently thick layer, considering that the thickness of the glaze significantly influences the degree of color and the desired effect.
Preparation – Application – Firing:
The choice of product for professional use, its preparation, and application must be based on the expansion coefficient of the biscuit to be glazed, its porosity, the firing cycle, and the type of kiln. Generally speaking, and as a rough guide, the glaze should be diluted with water in the ratio of 1 kg of powder to 0.6 liters of water. After soaking for a few hours (24 hours is recommended), mix well and sift before use. If necessary, add water until the ideal consistency is achieved for the substrate being used. All glazes are intermixable. Glazes, mixed in various proportions and possibly with small additions of colors or dispersible dyes, are ideal for customizing colored glazes. Before application, the biscuit must be fired at a higher temperature than the one set for the second firing. The application can be carefully done by dipping, ensuring that the layer is uniform throughout and that there are no drips. Airbrush application for professional use only.
