DESCRIPTION
A matt vitreous glaze that prevents the color of the biscuit from showing through. It can be used on various types of surfaces, but is best used on red clay objects. This lead-free glaze is recommended for glazing objects such as tableware, for professional use with classic decorations. It can also be used on objects intended for food use, such as tableware and table accessories, given the absence of toxic materials. The density of the lead-free, glossy white glaze depends on the absorbency of the semi-finished product and also on the application technique. It is measured with a hydrometer and must be between 45 and 58 Baumé degrees.
Dissolve the SLB 131 glaze in a container of water and insert the hydrometer. If it is too dense (e.g., 58 Baumé degrees), add water and mix well. If the thickness is not very dense (e.g., 44°Bé), wait for the glaze to settle (about 12 hours) and remove water until the correct density is achieved for the glazing technique you're using and the type of biscuit you're using for your ceramic creations.
The thickness, however, should be a few millimeters and can vary depending on the desired result. To ensure optimal finishes, I recommend sifting the glaze before working and checking that the kiln is set to 920°C.
